See that candle in the window how it’s floating when nobody’s home
Well I’m frightened of the shadows that it casts across the empty room
If it burns down that old house well good, hope it burns the whole town
Cuz there’s something on the wind, smells like ash and being born again
But you can’t escape what’s been following you
You could fall off the edge of the earth and it would still find a way to catch up to you
I’m followed, I’m frightened, I’m haunted by lightning
Striking faces in the clouds, sun don’t ever come out
But that candle burns brighter than the gleaming eyes fixed on my back
And the madness of unknowing if the flame is real behind the glass
So I peer in and I fog up the pane
The truth of vacant rooms and the torment of questions
Fill up my ears again
And I can’t escape what’s been following me
I could vanish from the face of the earth, and it would still find a way to catch up to me
The seen bespeak the unseen and a spectre sits between
And the spectre is me.
